Resources for Depression and Mental Illness

Book-darkmyroad-275x200Lutherans know that suffering is real, even for Christians. Depression and other mental illnesses can shake us to our core, but we are not alone. Christ is with us in the darkest places, for He is the light of the world, the light no darkness can overcome (Lutheran Service Book, P. 243). If you or anyone you know is dealing with these challenges, we pray you will find these resources helpful.

I Trust When Dark My Road: A Lutheran View of Depression by Todd A. Peperkorn. This book offers a rare glimpse into one LCMS pastor’s personal journey through depression while remaining reliant upon God’s grace. We are making this book available for a free download.

The resource available through this link seems to be pretty well done, dealing with many myths around why people suffer suicide, and has a chapter dealing specifically with how to help those left behind by suicide. I pray that it’s helpful.
