The 67th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod was held July 20-25 in Tampa, Fla., under the theme “Joy:fully Lutheran.”
Delegates passed all 15 resolutions presented by the three committees on July 25.
On July 23, Floor Committee 3 passed resolutions commending LCMS Disaster Response and the Synod’s life ministries and encouraging further training to care for those with mental illness.
On July 25, the Synod in convention passed resolutions to condemn physician-assisted suicide and to pray for persecuted Christians worldwide.
Floor Committee 10 on Ecclesiastical Supervision and Dispute Resolution presented resolutions to clarify bylaws and to thank those who have worked diligently to ensure the consistency and faithfulness of such work.
Delegates of the 2019 LCMS convention adopted four final resolutions brought to the delegation by Floor Committee 9 on Structure and Governance.
On July 24, the Synod in convention passed the final five resolutions brought by Floor Committee 2 on International Witness.
Delegates to the 2019 LCMS convention adopted resolutions giving thanks for the 125th anniversary, as well as mission work — past and present — in the Synod’s four world regions.
Floor Committee 6 on Pastoral Ministry and Seminaries presented two resolutions to continue to strengthen those who serve with the Word and Sacraments.
The Synod in convention recognized fellowship with a South African church body, commended a report on cremation, and requested further study on “the relationship between unity in doctrine and uniformity and variety in practice.”
After some discussion, the Synod in convention adopted Res. 5-09A, which confesses that God created the world in six natural days.
Convention delegates opted to increase the slate of candidates for presidential elections from three to five and adjust bylaws to provide for a timely election process.
Floor Committee 5 on Theology and Church Relations brought resolutions to the 2019 LCMS convention regarding the fellowship of partner churches with the Lutheran World Federation, while also commending the International Lutheran Council.
The boards of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and of the Concordia universities and colleges were filled by elections on July 24.
Resolutions regarding support for the seminaries, the “1.1.1” offering model and financial transparency were adopted on July 24 at the 2019 LCMS convention.
