Mona Fuerstenau is chairwoman of the LCMS Disability Task Force, and she has served in this field since 1980. The lifelong Lutheran – who has been the parent of two children with diverse support needs for 25 years – is devoted to equipping people with the knowledge to create churches, schools and community environments fully inclusive of families who experience disabilities. Fuerstenau’s roles and honors include: Member of LCMS Northwest District Disability Awareness Task Force since 2006; governor’s appointment to the Washington State Developmental Disability Council; member of the Portland Lutheran Association of Christian Education board; ministry consultant with Bethesda Lutheran Communities in the Religious Life Department; and graduate of Western Washington University (speech pathology) with post-baccalaureate studies at Oregon State University (gerontology and counseling).
