  1. Avatar Rev. David M. DePaoli says:

Stewardship is always to be taught and modeled in the congregation, but the gathering and presenting of monetary offerings should disappear from the Divine Service. The Offertory is time for the Priesthood of the Baptized to offer themselves as living sacrifices (as is the words of Psalm 51:10ff).

I believe that we need to return to normal as soon as possible. The CDC itself has said that surface transmission is not a serious risk. The capitulation to fear does not witness well to our neighbors. We have used hymnals and collection plates through influenza, measles, polio, pneumonia, and smallpox outbreaks. Destroying our traditions now makes no sense. If we need to temporarily restrict the use of hymnals or collection plates during times of widespread illness, it should be a very limited change for a specified time, not a capitulation to fear.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. – II Timothy 1:7
