Seminaries sponsor campus visit days

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., have scheduled a variety of on-campus visit opportunities for prospective students for the 2017-18 academic year.

The events are aimed at providing a preview of seminary life for prospective pastoral and diaconal ministry students. There is something for everyone, including those still in high school or college as well as those considering ministry as a second career.

Upcoming visitation events for Concordia, St. Louis, include:

Contemplate (Oct. 5-7, 2017; March 8–10, Oct. 4–6, 2018): For college students and second-career men and women, this three-day visit offers an in-depth view of the preparation that leads to service as a pastor or deaconess.

Green & Gold Days (Nov. 3, 2017; Feb. 9, April 6 and Nov. 2, 2018): For college students and second-career men and women, Green & Gold Days is an opportunity to spend a day on campus and see what the seminary has to offer. The day includes meeting with current students and professors, attending classes and chapel, and ending the day with dinner and discussion.

Shepherds of God’s Flock (Feb. 8, 2018): For college students and second-career men, Shepherds of God’s Flock is about the decision-making process of “service as a shepherd.” At this one-day event, participants explore ministry through Bible study, hear panel presentations from pastors and students, and talk with others who are asking the same questions.

Taste of the Sem (Feb. 17–19, 2018): For high school men, this is a chance to spend a weekend on campus diving into Lutheran theology, prayer and worship. Participants have the opportunity to talk with current students and professors and to accompany their mentors to church.

Vocatio (June 23–28, 2018): For high school men and women, this weeklong retreat explores God’s calling and direction. Included are Bible study, worship, vocation discussion, a servant event and some St. Louis fun. A Concordia University System college fair also is scheduled.

Next Steps (July 13–14, 2018): For prospective married students and their immediate families, this two-day event gives participants an opportunity to connect with the Concordia Seminary community. Participants learn about transitioning to seminary life from those who already have taken this step.

Upcoming visitation events for Concordia, Fort Wayne, include:

Prayerfully Consider Visits (Oct. 11–14, 2017; March 14–17, 2018): This three-day event invites men and women of all ages to contemplate the vocations of pastor and deaconess by exploring the campus, engaging with students and faculty, and experiencing rich fellowship and worship.

Christ Academy College/Phoebe Academy College (Nov. 2–5, 2017): This four-day event offers undergraduate men and women the opportunity to experience for themselves what seminary life is like. Participants will sit in on classes, get to know professors and students, and worship with the seminary community.

Christ Academy High School (June 17–30, 2018): This two-week immersive retreat gives high-school-aged men an introduction to Lutheran theology and practice. Those interested in pastoral ministry are treated to a hands-on seminary experience as they worship, study and relax. Classes are taught by seminary professors and other teachers and pastors.

Phoebe Academy High School (June 17–24, 2018): This weeklong event for female high school students provides an opportunity to explore the vocation of deaconess and consider God’s Word on mercy and what it means for us today. Participants will meet deaconesses serving the Church and learn what they do and how they are trained to serve their neighbors.
