TimeLine Newsletter – Fourth Quarter 2016

LCMS Black Ministry 4th quarter 2016 TimeLine Newsletter

God’s Word is very clear that as Jesus’ followers we are to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matt. 28:19). Over generations, those serving in black and urban ministry — in the United States and around the world — have upheld this instruction with perseverance and passion.

The Gospel has been and continues to be shared around the world from generation to generation, and that is exemplified in the fourth quarter 2016 edition of Black Ministry’s TimeLine newsletter. Read about:

  • The strong legacy of St. James Lutheran Church, Buena Vista, Ala., and the generations of Lutheran pastors and church workers it has produced;
  • Rev. Jerome Terry, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, New Orleans, and the ministry to the homeless he started at his church;
  • Rev. Kenety Gee, pastor of Chatham Fields Lutheran Church, Chicago, and his passion to minister to the urban neighborhood his church serves and to the poor in his native Liberia; and
  • Rev. Eddie Mekasha, a chaplain pastor at Tyson Foods, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and his chance encounter with a lost soul on a train in Ethiopia.

In addition, read about the LCMS Lutherans in Black Ministry Family Convocation scheduled for July 12-16, 2017, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel, Birmingham, Ala., and the LCMS Black Clergy Caucus, which will be Jan. 18-20, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dallas.
