TimeLine Newsletter – Third Quarter 2015

TimeLine-Newsletter-Third-Quarter-2015-233x300The third quarter edition of LCMS Black Ministry’s TimeLine newsletter focuses on Rosa Jinsey Young, who grew up in Wilcox County, Ala., and, despite the immense challenges she faced growing up in rural Alabama, left a legacy of faith, family and serving others.

Her story is told in a documentary titled “The First Rosa” (thefirstrosa.com), taken from her autobiography, Light in the Dark Belt. The film is scheduled to be distributed to LCMS congregations and schools in January 2016.

This issue details the production of “The First Rosa” documentary and shares information about Trinity Lutheran School, Mobile, Ala., the last of the Rosa J. Young schools started under Rosa Young’s leadership as teacher, confessor and church planter from 1916-72.

For inclusion in future issues of TimeLine, LCMS Black Ministry requests congregations send articles highlighting their events, programs, activities, mission and ‘best practices’ to share with other LCMS congregations. Please send your articles to the Rev. Roosevelt Gray Jr. at roosevelt.gray@lcms.org by the end of the first month in the respective quarter (i.e., Oct. 31 for the fourth quarter newsletter).
