ST. LOUIS, April 30, 2014—Many teams and organizations sent to assist with last fall’s Typhoon Haiyan recovery efforts have already left the Philippines, just four months after the disaster.
LCMS Disaster Response is reaching out with mercy to help LCMS congregations in Arkansas and Mississippi as they help their members and neighbors affected by the April 27-28 tornadoes that killed at least 30 people and shattered dozens of homes and businesses across the central and southern United States.
It may seem like devastating tragedies are never-ending, but there’s a light in the darkness: LCMS Disaster Response is there, “reaching out with caring and compassion in the name of Christ.”
Both services at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, are set for April 29 and the services at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., are April 29 and 30.
On Nov. 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Philippines, killing more than 6,000 people and damaging or destroying more than 1 million homes. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) quickly stepped in, offering grants to its partner church body, the Lutheran Church in the Philippines (LCP), and sending a team to plan for the island nation’s long-term recovery.
